Mr. Villata was a concrete contractor whose stamp can be seen in sidewalks throughout Temescal and beyond. Terry and her younger brother, Kit Baxter, who lived with their parents at 443 43rd Street in Temescal, took art classes at nearby Studio One throughout their childhoods, and Terry later taught painting, drawing, and collage there. She also did graphic design for the Oakland Department of Parks and Recreation, and at various times was the administrator of the Adult Art Camp, Scrap Mobile, and the children's Saturday morning, summer, and holiday programs, which were run out of Studio One. Their mother, Jeanne Baxter, was an early president of OSAA, the Oakland Studio Arts Association, which raised funds for Studio One programs.
